Little Black Book by Otegha Uwagba

Little Black Book: A Toolkit for Working Women is the modern career guide every creative woman needs, whether you’re just starting out or already have years of experience.

For those of you who know me personally you’ll know I am a fiend for a business book for women! As a female boss / girl boss / entrepreneur I’ve read my fair share of books for women who want to achieve big things and after hearing so much about this book by Otegha Uwagba I couldn’t wait to have a read.

Otegha Uwagba is one of lifes incredible women. Writer, brand consultant, and the founder of Women Who – a London-based platform that connects, supports, and inspires creative working women, Otega was also included on the 2018 Forbes 30 Under 30 list AND her book, Little Black Book is now a Sunday Times bestseller…I mean #GOALS or what? I knew the content included in the book was going to be good!

I wasn’t disappointed. Well actually I was – I wished the book was bigger, longer, had a few glossy photos…it’s a book I’ve picked up many a time since finishing it and I get that it’s super handy to pop in your bag BUT I could do with a bigger version…maybe with some space to scrawl some ideas too – anyone else feel the same?

Anyway.

The review.

I loved how the book was sectioned into easy to digest chapters from overcoming creative blocks to managing money, work-life balance to the art of networking. There’s some really great advice in here and it’s written with a friendly tone throughout. A light-hearted business book for women without the hardcore Tony Robbins you-must-make-7-figures-now quotes. It’s a book I’d give to any aspiring female boss or a woman with an idea who’s looking to take the leap.

What made the book different was the Q&A in the back of the book which I thought was very clever! Real life queries from real life girl bosses and the advice that Otegha gives back was insightful yet simple to understand. It’s an easy book to pick up!

It’s exciting to see many books like Little Black Book on the shelves of bookshops at the moment. There really is a ‘Girl Power’ movement happening in the workplace. I’m excited to see what’s next from Otegha and fingers crossed for something a little longer next time.
