Judgement Detox by Gabrielle Bernstein

Do you need a Judgement Detox?  Judgement – both being judged and judging others – is at the core of our discomfort and the root of many of our life blocks. When we judge others, we get a quick hit of self-righteousness. Judgement can get us through when we feel hurt, insecure or vulnerable. But inevitably this feeling of righteousness fades and judgement causes our energy to weaken and our thoughts to darken.

Spiritual thought leader Gabrielle Bernstein made the commitment to heal her own relationship to judgement and changed her life in profound ways. She found that becoming more aware of her judgements made her a more mindful and conscious person. Her willingness to revise these perceptions has set her free.

This book formed our February Book Club and sparked so much thought and conversation both within the community AND at home with family and friends.

Judgement is not something I’ve read much, if not anything on and initially when I learned that Gabby’s new book I thought to myself ‘how can you write a book on judgement?’ well that my friends, was ME being judgemental!

And now, after reading the book I can tell you, you 100% CAN write a book on judgement.

A very good book at that.

Throughout the book there are 6 different methods and exercises that Gabby encourages you to immerse yourself in over a few weeks to really understand judgement, how it affects us, why we feel it, what we can do about it and how living without judgement can have a profound impact on how we treat others and how we treat ourselves.

There’s a mixture of journaling exercises, meditations and prayer throughout the book and I urge you to really invest in the practices as you go – you’ll have the biggest outcome that way.

What I really enjoyed about the book and what really got me thinking was the relationship between judgement and shame. I’ve been reading quite a bit about shame recently after I went to a Kyle Gray event, and it so it seemed that shame and judgement really went together.

We real judgement through shame.

We feel shame through judging others.

It’s one huge circle.

Think about it.

When you last judged someone or something, why did you make that judgement? Where did that judgement come from? It’s likely it has come from your own place of shame – whether you’ve judged someones appearance because of your own lack of self love or whether you’ve judged someones success because of your lack of self worth?

Interesting isn’t it?

When our thoughts come from a place of love, we no longer judge. We no longer feel shame.

Judgement Detox is a book for everyone. A book for men. A book for women. A book with a whole host of lessons I believe they should teach in schools. You can buy Judgement Detox via Amazon or for an extra bonus gift, purchase the book via Gabby’s website.

Review Party Thoughts

As I previously mentioned, Judgement Detox was our chosen book of the month for February’s GozenGirl Brighton event. This month, our Review Party formed a slightly new format which was well received! Instead of a general chit chat about the book I invited everyone who came along to take part in two mini exercises based on some of Gabby’s exercises in the book and ending with a judgement themed meditation.

What was so nice about the new format was that we each got to talk about our own judgement stories, our own experiences and of course our own thoughts on the book in a totally safe environment and of course, free from judgement. I really want these events to be more than just a chat about a book and I want each and every person who comes along to learn something new about themselves or the world. It really leaves us all feeling a little more empowered doesn’t it?

If you’re interested in coming along to our next Review Party event then please join us over in our Facebook group and if you’re interested in setting up your own GozenGirls group in your city I’d love to hear from you – just email donna@gozengirls.com.
