I’m no stranger to the world of meditation and mindfulness after taking a course in it a few years ago. The method put me in a really positive place and it opened my eyes to how important it is to take a moment for just you.
Anyway, the book.
Emma Mills just released Inhale, Exhale, Repeat last month. It took me just a couple of hours to read but since then I’ve dipped in and out of it throughout my day, setting aside some time for a meditation or two.
If you’re new to the world of ‘mindfulness’ that word we hear EVERYWHERE, then this book makes it easy for you – you’ll probably already be practicing a little meditation without you knowing!
WHAT WE LOVED:
There was a whole lot I loved about this book. Probably because I believe in the practice and I’ve experienced the good it can bring. The book starts with an introduction to meditation and the practice of mindfulness – a list of tools you’ll need and a super clear explanation of what it is. But that aside what I loved about the book was the breakdown of an average day…
Each chapter is then split into four parts; ‘Starting the Day’, ‘At Work’, ‘Post-Work Detox’ and ‘Days Off’, with practices for waking up, eating breakfast, walking to work, etc. I really enjoyed part 3 – ‘Post-Work Detox’ – because that’s when I know I really NEED to unwind. And there are exercises lasting anywhere between 5 minutes to an hour. So no excuse!
The little illustrations throughout the book and the fact its small enough for your handbag gave the book a friendly feel and not like other meditation books that I sometimes find a bit technical.
WHAT WE ALMOST LOVED:
There was a lot of references to poems in this book. Now call me a cynic but I’m not really a big poetry fan. I would have liked more inspirational stuff in there, some visualisations perhaps.
GOZENGIRL RATING: 4/5
